TANGIER-MOROCCO

Villa amazonas

The villa Amazonas was built in 1906 as one of the prestigious MOKRI villas in Tangier.

Going back in time, these seigneurial villas were constructed in the Marshan plateau near the rocky borders of Phoenician tombs, a historical place where Tangier's oldest families used to live.

With a perfect exposure to the sun and being surrounded by pretty flowered and wooded gardens, the MOKRI villas were a spot for meetings and reception.

The villa is composed of a main body with a colonial design inspired from the pure Mediterranean style. The large veranda opens onto a garden planted with ancestral palm trees with a view to a swimming pool inspired by Andalusian basins which separates it from an oriental pavilion entirely furnished with antique works of art.

Palais moulay hafid

The Palace of Italian Institutions, commonly known as the Moulay Hafid Palace, is one of the most important historical landmarks in Tangier. It is located in the central district of Hasnouna, at the heart of a 32,800 m² property, of which 8,669 m² are built.

This palace, now famous for its magnificent garden adorned with century-old trees, its vast courtyard with a sublime marble fountain, and its salons decorated with stucco, has had a tumultuous history.

Built in the late 19th century by Sultan Moulay Hafid, the palace was intended to be a masterpiece of Moorish architecture, both for the beauty of its gardens and its spacious interiors. However, the Sultan never inhabited the palace, as he went into exile in Spain at the beginning of the 20th century. Despite this, he demanded that the construction be completed as a condition for signing the protectorate treaty, and the palace was finalized in 1912.

After becoming the property of the French state, the palace was auctioned off in 1926 and acquired by the Italian government. They built a church, a school, and a hospital there. The palace then changed its name to become the "Palace of Italian Institutions" and became a prestigious venue for hosting cultural and social events.
